To continue with the phenomenon set by WiiSports, Nintendo announced WiiFit recently at their E3 conference. Now your feet and the rest of your body gets into the action thanks to the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board that comes packed in with the game.

The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities focus towards providing a “core” workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions. Family members will have fun staying active and talking about and comparing their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu.

While I’m sure WiiFit will sell like hotcakes, I’m most excited about the possibilities of using the board with other sorts of games. It’s amazing how much can be told about your body position just from shifts in body weight… namely, leaning, strafing and ducking can be detected.

Of course, while the possibilities are indeed amazing, the real question is… will any developers actually put in the time to bring these possibilities into fruition? And if they do, will they do it well?
