FaceBook.com is undergoing some cosmetic surgery today.

The new features to the site are designed to simplify navigation through member profiles and will offer “portal pages” that give an overview of groups people belong to and groups they might join.

Prior to the update, the Facebook team set up a group to openly discuss the changes with the community. This is to avoid any sudden blacklash like the previous update last September after introducing a design that revealed more personal information about people than many wanted known.

The changes are hardly earth-shaking, but these improvement to the social-networking site mark the maturation of the FaceBook from college hook-up page to full on MySpace challenger.
